Some people have become permanantly fixed in my heart. Some parents I feel so close to and love their children just like they are my own. Miss Sadie is one of those children. Thanks so much for letting me share your journey Mistie. Every story h

Jennifer Toby A story of Schizencephaly

Image
Jennifer's story is very close to my family and her picture sits in the hallway with all of our other families Pictures. Jennifer and Noah have a very special bond One that cannot be spoken with words just love., And I am so honored to share her story with all. Some children are angels sent from Heaven. That is the way I feel about all the children I know with Schizencephaly. But jennifer's ....well her story is still so alive in our hearts. Janet is a very strong mother and someone I am proud to call family. I hope everyone takes time to really listen with your heart. I have decided to run this story as one part because it just cannot be cut into five days. I will however be sharing pictures of Jennifer throughout the entire week. As a reminder  of many of us that forget that there is so much to Christmas we forget. The smiles and laughs of those that are missed.  This Christmas we should all think of families like Janet's because too many of us forget that so Many of us

The story of Phillip Mims. and schizencephaly

THE STORY OF PHILLIP MIMS I was born breech in the early 1970's. This was a time before CT scans and MRI's. Because of being breech I lacked oxygen at birth, and I was diagnosed with mild Cerebral Palsy. My left side was more affected than the right which means that my right side of my brain has more damage I was never told or treated like anything was wrong with me. My mother believed in tough love and told me if I don’t learn to be independent I might not have anyone to rely on one day. I was told God healed me, a little blind faith. I don’t remember too much but I know my Mother made me walk she held me up until I could hold myself up. There were a lot of falls and cuts broken fingers but, even when I fell and hurt myself I was forced to continue until I did it better. Usually she chanted prayers and yelled at me like a drill Sargent to encourage me to push on forward. We went to a lot of Evangelist tent meetings and got prayed for. I was usually the one the showed peo

Schiz kid of the week Yanni

My journey with my daughter Yanni began in December of 2001, when she was born. I had a standard scheduled Cesarean-section. Yanni is the third of five children and the two born before her were also c-sections. Surgery went wonderfully, and Yanni weighed in at a beautiful and healthy 7 pounds 8 ounces.  But right after birth, her blood sugar dropped and so did her oxygen saturation levels. Unfortunately, the doctors just couldn’t figure out why. They placed her in the NICU, where she stayed for 4 days until they believed she was stable, and sent us home. I couldn’t have been happier, because although she hit that initial speed bump, she seemed to have come through just fine. She ate very well, and behaved like any newborn would. As time went by though, I noticed that Yanni didn’t seem to be “seeing.” She wasn’t tracking objects, and her eyes were bouncing around a lot. I brought it to the attention of our pediatrician at the TIME, and she blew it off as normal newborn behavior. I
